3BK, Downtown

The newly opened 3BK (short for 3rd floor of Burj Khalifa) has a nice setting, but it needs something more - if you want to attract the crowd away from DIFC, you need to have a vision on how to do it. 3BK seems to think that they will do it just by charging a lot of money for some crowd-pleasing menu favorites - but the lack of identity is evident: Maki Rolls, Beef Tartare, Guacamole, Burrata - the options are endless but where is the common thread? The same theme goes through in the cocktail menu - a decent list of the classics but while one drink is with Japanese touches, the other one is American, and so on.

Come here if you’re indecisive and would like to have a lot on offer, but don’t expect the exceptional.

Atmosphere: 4/8
This seems to be more of a lounge bar than cocktail bar, nondescript mellow tunes mixed with toned down lighting - but it gets too dark, and too anonymous.

Cocktails: 6/8
More than decent cocktails executed in a nice way, and they’re well described in the menu as well.

Bartenders: 5/8
Bartenders that seem to be quick and professional - due to the few seats around the bar counter, not a lot of interaction with the guests though.

Ice: 6/8
Big ice cubes with an ice stamp is a good beginning - bring it to the next level with clear ice.
