Coya Members Club, Jumeirah

Hidden behind a trapdoor in the main entrance of Coya is the exclusive Coya Members Club. If we all can agree that Coya is one of Dubai’s top destinations not only from a food and drinks perspective, but also from the fact that the whole place is a feast for the eyes - then I’ll tell you that Coya Members Club takes no prisoners - it’s like stepping into another world in the other world you’re already in. At night this place will transport you Havana, Lima or Caracas, thanks to the cocktails, interior design and the live band pumping out lively tunes. All of this taken into account, I still think there are better ways to spend your money than on a membership for this place, the “real” Coya nextdoor is as lively and holds the same quality. But this is Dubai, I guess - right? Exclusiveness is a prime commodity, and there are lots of people who don’t mind paying for it. Me? I’d spend the money in the bar at Coya instead, and thereby earning my attention.

For that exclusive feeling of a tony bar, accessible and known only to the fervent few.

Atmosphere: 6/8
Being an elusive members lounge, the accessibility is not the best - once inside though, there are clear traces from the mothership next door - it’s beautifully decorated, and most often a live band gives a great vibe as well.

Cocktails: 6/8
A little more TLC is given to the drinks in the main bar, but this bar has a few great cocktails earning extra points.

Bartenders: 6/8
Even though the bartenders are working in both Coya and in the members lounge, it seems as if they have a sharper edge in the main bar - step it up a notch here, guys - people are paying big bucks!.

Ice: 7/8
Proper clear ice in big cubes, albeit no ice stamp in sight, and no large ice blocks - but it’s still damn good for the cocktails.
