The Clavichord, Barsha Heights

Previously described as “a cosy 1920s-style joint, The Clavichord offers themed nights, live music and twenties-inspired cocktails”, there is little - or nothing - of that era to be found in Clavichord these days. They’ve gone from having quaint jazz bands providing the entertainment, to ordinary live bands playing rock and blues. And the twenties-inspired cocktails are nowhere to be seen - the bartender is almost giggling with amusement that someone orders a Negroni - apparently there are more common orders (i.e. beer). Having said this - the band is good, just not fit for the cocktail scene, and while there for sure is a market for live rock music, the self-acclaimed cocktail elite is perhaps not part of it.

Come her and get surprised by the different live sets on stage, different ones different days, and stick to mainstream classics in the bar, and you’ll be fine.

Atmosphere: 4/8
Loud, live music and a small bar serving “house beverages” - it’s not all bad, but it’s definitely not all good.

Cocktails: 3/8
Clearly, the focus here is on the live entertainment rather than cocktails, a Negroni can be rustled up, but it’s unfortunately diluted.

Bartenders: 4/8
Could be that the bartender is out of touch due to the fact that beer seem to be the most popular drink.

Ice: 3/8
Small ice cubes that melt while the bartender is looking for the ingredients - is a Negroni really that rare as an order?
