A visit to Coya is never wrong - captivating music, some of the best food the world has to offer (the fusion between Japan and Peru is fantastic!) and add to that cocktails and drinks on par with the food, and you’ve got yourself a given visit when in Dubai. From the cocktail perspective, a few adjustments could be made to make this into a real winner, but it’s for the food that you should visit first and foremost. Also, don’t be put off by the fact that they have pre-batched your Negroni or Old Fashioned, even though you may miss out watching the bartender and his skills skills when mixing the cocktail, the joy of looking at the ice craftsmanship more than makes up for it.
Go here to be blown away in a mental storm of beautiful decor, delicious food and solid drinks - and be prepared for some upbeat music as well.
Atmosphere: 6/8
Jaw-dropping decor combined with a massive bar definitely qualifies for a high grade, but it’s still a bit too focused on the dinner guests to qualify as a true waterhole for cocktail aficionados.
Cocktails: 7/8
With a firm focus on Pisco and other spirits from Mexico and South America, they have a quite impressive menu, but they land a few short straws from greatness in the execution of the drinks.
Bartenders: 7/8
This team is almost as well-oiled as previously reviewed Zuma - they all know their trade and are well-versed with the classics.
Ice: 8/8
Ice block. Ice saw. Ice pick. Big ice cubes. Ice stamp. Enough said.
